The Action Lab is a group of mad scientists who collectively have over 25 years of comic book creating experience. After slaving in obscurity and alone for lo, these many years, these quasi-evil geniuses have now gathered together from around the globe to form a secret research and development collective devoted to world domination through the purification of the comic book art form. The Action Lab has sworn to use its powers for a single purpose — to bring the world the most action packed, most thought-provoking, most entertaining comics available, thereby ushering in a new age of world peace under the dominating yet benign control of the Action Lab.
Their first major release, FRACTURE, was released in July 2011 followed by the now two-time Eisner nominated and five-time Glyph nominated PRINCELESS in October 2011. Action Lab continues to publish genre spanning comics from the all-ages MONSTERS ARE JUST LIKE US, and mature reader books like SNOWED IN and DOUBLE JUMPERS.
Action Lab Entertainment is the public front for all the activities of the Action Lab and its members. Although most of the Action Lab’s activities remain classified, Action Lab Entertainment can disclose that two of its many functions are the marketing of comic books through various sales outlets, and the expansion of their domination into other mediums.
If you have the opportunity to interface with any Action Lab personnel at a comic book show or other event, please approach with caution, but feel free to purchase any of the fine comic book products which may be available.
Publisher/CEO, Action Lab
Bryan has been in the comic business since the day Action Lab started in 2010, as one of the founding shareholders of the company. Winner of the “You’re the Best” award from his 6 year old daughter, Bryan just wants to enjoy life. Other than a love of reading and collecting comics Bryan has no comic or publishing experience. Everyone is still wondering what qualifies him to head the company as its Chief Executive Officer, Publisher, and member of the Board of Directors. It’s a wonder Action Lab is still in business.
President of Creative Relations, Action Lab/Action Lab Danger Zone
Shawn is one of the co-founders of Action Lab Entertainment, serving as President and Operations Manager from 2010-2014, and later became Director of Digital Development from 2014-2015. After a two-year hiatus, he returned to Action Lab in the role of President of Creative Relations, helping current and new Action Lab creators learn about the business of comics publishing and assisting them when needed.
Shawn is also the creator and co-writer of the YA mystery series CASH & CARRIE, and the writer and co-creator of the football drama series FORCE.
Publisher, Danger Zone
An artist, creator, and publisher, Jason first broke into the industry in 2005 with his self-published comic, Super Real. From there he moved on to publish works by other creators, in addition to completing Super Real as a graphic novel, and has done freelance art for clients including Marvel Comics, Cartoon Network, and more.
“I’m incredibly excited to take my efforts at showcasing boundary pushing, genre redefining material that I began with my Super Real Graphics to an even larger audience with the backing of the talented folks at ALE,” exclaims Martin. “I’m as passionate for comics as a person can be, especially the creative and quirky ideas born from creators with a story to tell in this graphic medium, and truly love working with them to share their visions and mine.”
Editor in Chief
Easily the most prolific staff member of Action Lab, Shawn (and wife Stephanie) have been carving out their niche with Angry Gnome Comics for years, producing books like Palm Reader, Victor Season, and the critically acclaimed anthology, Short Stack, an excerpt of which was featured in Heavy Metal magazine. Shawn also spearheaded the Greenbrook Project, challenging five indie publishers to take the same basic plot and character list and to create their own unique storyline.
As Editor in Chief of Action Lab, Shawn lends his eagle eye to all Action Lab books from conception to the final product. On top of his duties as EIC, Shawn is also the writer of Action Lab’s first comic book series, Fracture and the horror filled one-shot Snowed In.

Social Media Director
Jim Dietz at various points in his life has worked as a carnival barker, a paid picketer, a journalist, a spoken word performer, a bouncer at a punk bar, and a podcasting producer and host, although most of his training is culinary in nature having apprenticed with chefs in San Francisco, Cleveland and Pittsburgh before opening his own restaurant Gypsy Cafe in Spring 2004, the actual spot where Action Lab was conceived a few years later. Jim and his wife Melanie sold Gypsy Cafe in 2012, and they now live on a farm outside of Pittsburgh with their two children Violetta and Jack and their cats Sophie and Mookie Jones.
He has been a lifelong geek and comics fan and is here to help when and if he can. What Jim lacks in comics experience he makes up for in moxie, chutzpah and overall gusto. His tiny contributions to the Action Lab empire are dwarfed by the Herculean efforts of his cohorts.
